Hey did you watch the CEO of Great Wolf Lodge pick up poop from the bottom of a pool? I did. And the lack of further cleaning explanation during the show and reference to how often it happens greatly concerned me. So I decided to email them about this. I had a reply back within just a few hours. Check out the response. It explains things better especially if you click the links:
Tracey,
Thanks for your comments about the episode of Undercover Boss where our CEO had to deal with an Accidental Fecal Release in one of the pools. During the editing process many of the steps in our AFR response protocols were not shown. The process from start to finish wouldn’t make for “good TV” and was not aired in its entirety.
All Great Wolf Resorts follow protocols and guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and local health codes. You can see this online at www.healthyswimming.org or view comments from our Vice President of Risk Management regarding the topic at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZX5gD0EKy8 or view this video on our face book page under the videos tab.
Our Waterparks utilizes state-of-the art water purification equipment to ensure our water is as clean as possible for our guests. Great Wolf has developed industry-leading technology to balance effectiveness and guest comfort. All our pool systems are all monitored by computer and the chemical levels are tested and documented by our maintenance staff in accordance with State and CDC guidelines and regulations.
Here are six steps from the CDC that promote Healthy Swimming:
Three Steps for All Swimmers Keep germs from causing RWIs:
Please don't swim when you have diarrhea. You can spread germs in the water and make other people sick.
Please don't swallow the pool water. Avoid getting water in your mouth.
Please practice good hygiene. Shower with soap before swimming and wash your hands after using the toilet or changing diapers. Germs on your body end up in the water.
Three Steps for Parents of Young Kids Keep germs out of the pool:
Please take your kids on bathroom breaks or check diapers often. Waiting to hear "I have to go" may mean that it's too late.
Please change diapers in a bathroom or a diaper-changing area and not at poolside. Germs can spread in and around the pool.
Please wash your child thoroughly (especially the rear end) with soap and water before they go swimming. Invisible amounts of fecal matter can end up in the pool.
