This is the recipe I used to make for my whole extended family when I was a teenager. Everyone looked forward to this recipe at family functions! It should be frosted with the Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting recipe you will find on my blog.
3 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup water
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup soft butter
1 cup white sugar
3 eggs
2 tsp pure vanilla
1 cup dairy sour cream
Melt chocolate in water over low heat or in microwave; stir and cool.
Sift together dry ingredients. Set aside.
Cream together butter and sugars; add eggs one at a time; add vanilla.
Mix together cooled chocolate with sourcream.
Alternately add dry ingredients and sour cream mixture to butter and sugar mixture.
Pour into 3 greased cake pans. Batter will be quite fluffy. Bake in 350F oven for 30-35 minutes or until a pic comes out clean when testing it.
